Support for ongoing projects has continued unabated throughout 2009 and into 2010, further establishing the influence that Trade Aid UK has been able to give to important relief programmes worldwide. Much of this has been enabled by the continued sale of Trade Aid UK Sugar through Tesco Stores and the sale of ethical travel insurance through its partner www.travelandinsure.com. The use of external aid agencies and charities has been instrumental in us being able to reach the remotest parts of the globe where often the needs are greatest. The individual aid projects supported by Trade Aid UK can be viewed by simply scrolling up and down the project panel on this page and clicking on the project that interests you.
Primary School Education
A new project started in 2009 has been in support of the children's charity SOS Children's Village, Basse, in The Gambia. This village opened in 2007 and we are funding the Primary school fees of 5 school pupils, which includes all necessary books and materials, and the food budget for an SOS family home for a full year. From 2010, this will be extended to cover the annual medical expenses for everyone in the village, comprising staff, mothers and children.
SOS Children has been providing a family for life for children who have lost their parents through conflict, famine, disease and poverty, since 1949.
Over 70,000 orphaned or abandoned children are cared for by SOS mothers in clusters of family homes in more than 470 of our unique children’s villages, in 123 countries around the world.
A further million benefit from SOS Children’s outreach support which includes education, vocational training, medical care and community development programmes.
