Support for ongoing projects continued unabated in 2016 and into 2017, further establishing the influence that Trade Aid UK has been able to give to important relief programmes worldwide. Much of this has been enabled by the continued sale of Trade Aid UK Granulated and Caster Sugar through Tesco Stores and the sale of ethical travel insurance through its partner www.travelandinsure.com. The use of external aid agencies and charities has been instrumental in us being able to reach the remotest parts of the globe where often the needs are greatest. The individual aid projects supported by the Trade Aid UK Foundation can be viewed by simply scrolling up and down the project panel on this page and clicking on the project that interests you.

Education Programme

In 2009, Trade Aid UK were made aware of the work that the Loomba Foundation were doing and continue to do in India, Sri Lanka, Nepal, Bangladesh and in Africa to promote the education and welfare of children of poor widows in these two continents.

As a consequence, since 2009, we have continuously funded the education of 100 children in and around Delhi. These children ranging from 5 to 18 years old are selected irrespective of religion, gender and caste and receive a scholarship for a minimum period of 5 years.

The Loomba Trust works tirelessy in these countries to highlight the plight of the world's widows, who are especially vulnerable in the face of conflict, economic deprivation and disease and are often shunned and excluded by the rest of society.

By default, the children of widows suffer disproportionately too. They are not orphans, potentially eligible for state aid, charitable asistance or adoption, but remain the dependents of a single parent whose widow status may have driven her to the margins, without the education or skills to earn a wage and support a family.
