Support for ongoing projects has continued unabated in 2020 and now into 2021, further establishing the influence that Trade Aid UK has been able to give to important relief programmes worldwide. Much of this has been enabled by the continued sale of Trade Aid UK Granulated and Caster Sugar through Tesco Stores and online at Ocado. The use of external aid agencies and charities has been instrumental in us being able to reach the remotest parts of the globe where often the needs are greatest. The individual aid projects supported by the Trade Aid UK Foundation can be viewed by simply scrolling up and down the project panel on this page and clicking on the project that interests you.

Support to Syrian Refugees

Trade Aid UK is helping to fund the Charity, Medair, in their efforts to alleviate the plight of Syrian refugees where more than 3 million Syrians have fled from the violent conflict in their country. Families continue to arrive in neighbouring countries without many possessions, in search of a safe place to stay, water to drink, food for their families.

As the number of refugees continues to climb, host nations like Lebanon and Jordan are at a breaking point as they try to support so many vulnerable families.  The greatest restriction to increased humanitarian work in the region is lack of funding. In Lebanon and Jordan, Medair focus is on providing support and meeting the most urgent needs of Syrian refugee families.

With Trade Aid UK’s assistance, Medair is providing cash assistance and legal workshops for 565 Syrian refugee families and livelihoods training (in the form of micro-financing training) for 246 women. Shelter and water, sanitation and hygiene kits are being distributed to vulnerable families, community health education screening for malnutrition among women and children, infant and young child feeding education, anaemia screening and vaccination referrals.

Additionally, Medair is distributing thousands of winter shelter kits to refugees in informal settlements and specialty kits for newcomers and elderly and disabled people will be distributed on a case-by-case basis. Medair will conduct 30 site improvements in informal settlements to improve drainage and sanitation and distribute 100 water, sanitation and hygiene kits for clean water storage and accessibility.

Medair brings emergency relief and rehabilitation to over two million people a year in some of the most vulnerable countries in Africa, the Middle East and Asia, all countries that are severely affected by conflicts, natural disasters, or other crises. Medair responds to natural disasters, conflicts that uproot communities and crises, such as drought or disease.
